Arnoldia: telling trees' stories

When I joined metaLAB ten years ago, the first project we pursued was in collaboration with Harvard’s Arnold Arboretum. I was immeasurably enriched by the encounter, which was crucial to my work on the book, Tree. So I’m thrilled to start 2022 by joining the staff of the Arboretum, where I will edit the magazine, Arnoldia.

I’m arriving at a magical moment for the magazine, which has undergone a redesign under the direction of outgoing editor Jonathan Damery. Along with Keeper of Living Collections (and my new boss) Michael Dosmann, Arboretum director Ned Friedman, and an amazing editorial committee, Jonathan has expanded the remit and range of Arnoldia to embrace not only the science and scholarship that have been the magazine’s historic vectors, but also the arts and letters wherever they touch upon trees.

In its 150th year, the Arnold Arboretum is renewing its founding commitment to access with a focus on environmental justice and equity, doubling down on its efforts to support biodiversity and fight climate change. I’m eager to entangle Arnoldia in these issues. Reach out to learn more!
